We Congratulate Ashley Gunn!
Enterprise Early Education Center
“To know her is to love her.”
Lauren Poss says she can’t think of anyone who deserves to be Wiregrass Parents’ Teacher of the Month more than Ashley Gunn.
“She works tirelessly for her babies and dedicates not only her time in the classroom but also goes out of her way outside of her classroom time to do anything her students and their families need.”
Gunn is a kindergarten teacher at the Enterprise Early Education Center. She’s been teaching at the school for five years.
“I wanted to change the world,” Gunn says of her career choice. “I know that sounds silly, but I wanted to do something that allowed me to have a direct impact on a child’s life.”
Gunn says watching the light bulb go off in a child’s mind is the most rewarding experience and that her students’ smiles and excitement makes her want to watch and be a part of the process over and over again. She also wants her students to move on to first grade with a solid foundation for how to treat their peers.
“I hope my students leave my classroom knowing that kindness and manners matter.”
Gunn says, “Kindergarten is their introduction to big school so I have the honor of setting the stage for how they should act and treat others.”
This school year is picking up where last school year left off, in the middle of a pandemic. Gunn says now more than ever communication is the key to having a successful school year, and she urges parents to have patience.
“We are doing the best we can. This is new for everyone. We may not get it right the first time but we are working hard to meet the needs of our students each and every day.”
Poss says Gunn is doing a great job so far. “With all of the curveballs that have come our way with Covid-19 these last few months, Mrs. Gunn has stepped up to the plate each time with grace and perseverance and always a huge smile on her face!”
“At the end of the day kids are still kids and they love school,” Gunn says. “They want to be in the classroom and we are trying to make it be as normal, fun and encouraging as possible.”
Ashley Gunn received her B.S. and Masters of Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama. She and her husband, Geoff, have been married 12 years. They have two children, Max (9) and Liddie (4).
